The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted US Patent 12,761,648 B2 on October 13, 2026. Its title is "System and method of reducing energy consumption of datalogger devices monitoring accelerometers tracking changes of location". The application (No. 18/243,622) was filed on September 7, 2023 and published as US 2025/0085705 A1 on March 13, 2025. The inventor is Arash Aharpour of Vancouver, Canada.
What the patent covers
The patent describes a datalogger connected to an accelerometer fixed to the asset it watches. On a set sampling schedule, the datalogger switches the accelerometer on. When it sees that the asset is moving, it enters a motion state and sends an immediate update to the server. It keeps sampling on schedule while it follows the asset's location, shortens the interval between server updates from the resting interval to a moving interval, and reports the detected location to the server.
Two US patents
It joins US Patent 11,455,877 B2, "System and method of reducing energy consumption of datalogger devices while maintaining high sampling rate and real time alarm function". That patent covers the power management behind the battery life of LoggerFlex loggers: about 2 years for EDGE loggers and up to 3 years for BLOCK WiFi loggers on 4 AA batteries.
Why it matters for things that move
A logger that rides with a shipment or a vehicle spends much of its life standing still. The method lets it sample on a slow schedule while the asset is at rest and report more often only once the asset moves, so battery is spent when the location is changing.
